JIM ANDERSON, MFT
LICENSED MARRIAGE & FAMILY THERAPIST
MUSIC BASED THERAPY
Kids are hungry for new positive experiences, motivation and creative connections. Learning to play a musical instrument can be therapeutic in and of itself. Playing music together in groups has been proven through clinical research to improve cognitive functions and decrease feelings of anxiety and depression. This is where music can be tied back to learning, coping skills and problem solving.
Music has also been found to build self esteem, cohesion and social connections with others. Physiologically, music boosts endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin levels, which are natures natural feel good antidepressants, enhancing mood and a sense of wellness.
